MEREDITH (MARTI) FURMAN, Vice President and Commercial Property Manger
Marti returned to The Laurel Company 8 years ago after being previously employed with the company for 10 years. During those years with The Laurel Company, she was responsible for all phases of property management and the maintenance division supervision.
As the Southwest Division Manager for 9 years with National Realty Management in Las Vegas, Nevada she supervised several large (49 to 670 unit) apartment communities, self storage facilities and commercial properties in Nevada, Arizona and Texas. One of Ms. Furman’s largest responsibilities was the direct supervision and financial success of over 250,000 sq. ft. of the self storage portfolio. During her supervision she was responsible for employee training, computer implementation, daily functions and auditing with the goal to detect and eliminate employee waste and theft. In addition to these responsibilities she supervised the property maintenance schedule, budgets, auction and legal needs.
Ms. Furman was the recipient of the National Realty Management, Performance and Leadership Award in December 1994 and received the Adult Volunteer Award from the Frontier Girl Scout Council of Las Vegas in May 1997.
Ms. Furman is a licensed Broker in the state of California. She has completed the course work and received her certification from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, in the Supervisor’s Customer Service Training Program. She supplements her education with classes from the Institute of Real Estate Management and is certified by HUD for the Title X, Section 1012/1013, Lead Safe - Work Practices Training and has completed the class work and received certification in mold prevention and abatement.
Ms. Furman is a member of the Santa Barbara Rental Property Association and is a Notary Public in the State of California.
Darren Peterson, Self Storage Chief Operating Officer
Darren has been with The Laurel Company for over fifteen years starting part-time as a teenager in the Maintenance Department. Through hard work and determination Darren worked his way through the Maintenance Department and was promoted to the Property Management Division. Previously, as a Property Manager, he learned all the phases of Residential Management and has quickly gained additional experience in Self Storage Management. Currently, as Chief Operating Officer, Darren is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the home office. Darren is licensed by the State of California as a Real Estate Salesman and is in process of obtaining his Broker’s License. Currently, he is a graduate of the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, and holds certifications in the fields of Fair Housing, Mold Abatement and Tenant relations.
Tara Diaz, Residential Property Manager
Tara is a California licensed Real Estate Salesperson. She brings property management experience from both California and Utah to The Laurel Co. where she managed an apartment complex and renovations to condos. She has experience in all office functions, tenant relations and education. She attends night school and holds a chemical and hazardous waste certification.
Tara takes an active roll in her son’s interests, which are scouting and BMX racing. Her interests include baseball, volunteering for the past 3 years at the woman’s abuse center and acting as the Awards President for the PTA.
