How to Make a Small Apartment Seem Bigger

Space-Room via our Realty Management Tips

We’ve all had the feeling that our apartment is too small for us at some point or another. Feeling this way can greatly diminish the purpose of going home after a long day at work – to rest and feel relaxed. Spending an entire day in a small apartment also ruins a perfectly good weekend. Here are a few ways to make the best out of your small apartment situation.

Repaint the Walls

If your landlord allows it, paint the walls with colors of the same tone. This creates an illusion of greater space. Choose a soft and light color for both the walls and the floors. If the floor tiles are dark-colored, use a large rug to cover it up.

Use Mirrors

Having multiple mirrors provide an illusion of expansion that can help expand the room. One great way to use mirrors for this purpose is to buy a full-length mirror and put it on the back of the bathroom door.

Declutter

There’s a reason why the boring and tedious methods always work – because they have been proven to be good. If the apartment looks a tad too small, try and tidy it up a bit. Cut down on the number of towels or decorative pieces that are cluttered toward one side of the room. Opt to use a bigger rug rather than three smaller rugs. Unnecessary clutter will always “shrink” the room to a certain extent and if the clutter is cleaned up, then the room will “expand” back to its original size.
